The Kernel's Story
Inspired by a love of popcorn and desire to bring high-quality,
delicious
Gourmet Popcorn
to his home town of Geneva, IL, Dann Villwock
contacted long-time friend Rich Balance regarding opening a shoppe on historic
Third Street in Geneva.
Balance thought it was a great idea and the two men formed
a partnership to develop the concept.

Historic Third Street
When a quaint location became available on Geneva's well-known historic Third Street, the partners moved very quickly to secure the building and immediately began development of their unique concept. A historic theme was chosen, and the name easily created from Geneva's long-time association with legendary figure Colonel George Fabyan, known as an innovator and generous community philanthropist. In the Fall of 2006, Kernel Fabyan's expanded its business into Naperville, IL. The new shoppe is located at the corner of Washington Street and Chicago Avenue in the heart of downtown Naperville. Kernel Fabyan's also created a web presence so people all over the country could enjoy the fresh, delicious gourmet popcorn. Most recently they expanded their business to include creative gift packages and special occasion favor bags.

The Products
Months were spent creating unique recipes for evaluation by the partners, their family members and close friends. Endless taste-testing sessions were conducted with repeated changes in recipe ingredients and preparation processes. Finally a consensus was reached, and the initial delicious menu items prevailed!

Building Memories one "Kernel" at a time
The families completely renovated the unique Third Street location and dramatically changed both the interior and exterior facades, thus successfully creating the look, feel AND smell, of an ol' fashion popcorn shoppe. Visitors immediately notice the Fabyan's legacy on our menu board, the historical "period" photos on the walls and the contagious jazz music playing both inside and outside the shoppe.
Usually a Villwock family member is behind the counter happy to greet customers with a complimentary sample or taste-test of a potentially new menu item.
